While tabling in Red Square for TDOV, transphobic protestors showed up on campus. They arrived with signs that said "Gender ideology does not belong in schools" and "Children cannot consent to puberty blockers". After learning this group would be on campus the following day, April 1st, TCUW and SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) teamed up to hold a counter protest. The objective of this counter protest was not to argue with or debate the protestors. Instead, this was an act of showing the UW Trans community that they are supported. As a united front, the group went around campus showing off signs supporting Trans Rights and proudly carrying the Trans flag. Signs that said "Protect Trans kids", "Trans Joy", "Trans rights are Human rights" and "I love Trans people". In addition to being visible TCUW also was handing out pamphlets that gave students information about Trans resources at UW and information about how to get involved in the Trans community.
This event was covered by Chloe Peterson in the UW Daily. Find the article here: https://www.dailyuw.com/opinion/critical_conversations/trans-joy-trans-rights-and-trans-counterprotest/article_272ced58-b955-11ec-a6e4-8320a91e18f0.html
